Companies with strong processes in planning and execution control, often needing to cycle their supply chain faster, may consider the latest techniques in Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS). These systems are a step beyond Finite Schedulers. Some types of businesses will benefit, others will gain nothing, and some might even be worse off. It is a question first of preparedness, then of suitability to meet business objectives. This course builds on Advanced Supply Planning and is designed to help managers make informed decisions about APS for their situation; to clarify the opportunities and the risks involved; and to highlight the management issues for its success in an integrated business. It includes an overview of Constraint Based Scheduling. The course will outline the key concepts behind APS and will cover optimising the enterprise with APS; APS supply models; collaborative supply planning; APS in support of the master schedule, and implementation and management issues. For companies intending or considering to implement the even more sophisticated ‘Advanced Planning Optimising and Scheduling’ (APOS) type of system it would be more appropriate to attend the ‘Advanced Supply Network Planning’ course.
